Privacy Policy

SmarTest is built to work offline, and most of what you do in it stays on your phone. This page explains, in plain language, what we do handle and why.

What stays on your device

Downloaded subjects — past questions, notes, flashcards and your syllabus — live on your device, along with your answers as you work. You can study with no connection at all, and none of that content needs to reach us for the app to work.

What we collect

• Your account. Your name and email address, so you can sign in and so we can reply to you. An account is required to use the app.
• Your study progress. Test scores, topic mastery and activity are synced to your account so your progress survives a lost or replaced phone. This is tied to you, and you can have it deleted.
• Payments. If you subscribe, your card details are entered in the app and passed straight to our payment provider, Paystack, who process the charge. We never store or see your card number. We do keep a record of which plan you bought and when.
• AI tutor questions.A question you ask the AI tutor — and a photo of a question, if you attach one — is sent to our servers and on to an AI provider to generate the answer. Providers are contractually barred from training their public models on it. Please don’t put personal details in a tutor question.
• Photos you choose to send. A profile picture, a support-ticket attachment, or a photo of a question. Only ever one you pick yourself.
• Crash reports. When something goes wrong the app sends us the error, with your device model, Android version, app version and an app-generated install identifier, so we can fix it.
• Your school, if you have one. If your school enrolled you with a code, your school can see your homework and mock-exam results, because that is the point of it.
• Email addresses from this website. Newsletter, waitlist and contact forms are processed by Formspree.

What we don’t do

• We don’t sell your data. To anyone. Ever.
• We don’t show ads, and there is no advertising identifier in the app.
• We don’t use any third-party analytics or tracking SDK. Crash reporting is our own, on our own servers.
• We don’t ask for your location, contacts, calendar or messages.

Who else processes your data

Paystack (payments), our AI providers (tutor answers) and Formspree (website forms). Some of them process data outside Nigeria; where that happens we rely on their contractual and security safeguards.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account and everything attached to it from Profile → Settings → Delete Account in the app, or by writing to us. Payment records are kept for up to seven years because tax law requires it. The full detail is on our account deletion page.

Who SmarTest is for

SmarTest is built for secondary-school students preparing for JAMB, WAEC and NECO, and is not directed at children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child under 13 has created an account, email support@smartest.ng and we will delete it.

Data retention and security

We hold your account and progress for as long as your account exists. Data is encrypted in transit between your device and our servers. If there is a breach affecting your data we will notify you and, where required, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, within 72 hours of becoming aware of it.

Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act you can ask to access, correct, export or delete the personal data we hold about you, or object to how we process it. Write to support@smartest.ng and we respond within 7 business days. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link in any email.

Governing law and changes

This policy is governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act. If we make material changes we will update the date above before they take effect.
