Lost Your JAMB SIM? JAMB Finally Approves Number Changes for 2026

Have you lost the SIM card or email you used to register for JAMB? Here is the exact new process to change your details and access your CAPS.

Lost Your JAMB SIM? JAMB Finally Approves Number Changes for 2026

Thousands of students miss their admission every year simply because they lost the SIM card they used to register for JAMB and cannot log into CAPS to click "Accept." If this has happened to you, there is good news.

JAMB Lifts the Ban on SIM and Email Changes

For a long time, JAMB blocked students from changing their phone numbers to prevent scammers from stealing candidates' profiles. However, as of September 21, 2026, JAMB has officially lifted this ban. You can now update your registered phone number and email address, but you must follow a very strict method to prove you are the real owner of the account.

The Method: How to Change Your Details

Because of security, you cannot do this online by yourself.

  1. Visit a JAMB Office: You cannot use a regular cyber cafe or even a standard CBT center for this. You must go to the main JAMB State Office or National Headquarters.
  2. Biometric Verification: You will be required to place your thumb on the scanner. JAMB will match your fingerprint to the one you used during your initial registration.
  3. Bring Your Documents: Bring your NIN slip, your JAMB registration slip, and your new active SIM card/phone number. Important Rule: JAMB will only allow you to use this service once. Make sure the new number you provide is registered in your name and will not be lost again.

Why You Need to Do This Right Now

JAMB CAPS was fully restored on September 28, and universities are currently sending out admission lists. If you cannot log into your email or get the OTP on your phone, you cannot accept your admission. If you don't accept it, JAMB will eventually revoke it and give your slot to someone else.

Quick Q&A (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: Can I change my JAMB phone number at a normal CBT center? A: No. Because of strict biometric security, this specific service is only available at official JAMB State Offices. Q: How much does it cost to change my JAMB email or number? A: You will likely pay a standard JAMB service charge (usually around N500 to N1,000) at the official JAMB office. Do not pay thousands of Naira to online scammers claiming they can do it for you remotely. Q: Can I change my details more than once? A: No. JAMB policy dictates that candidates can only swap their phone number or email address once per registration cycle to prevent fraud.
